Seed ship: Sailing from Georgia

Thanks to The Tinyartgallerythehague and Ruis Nijmegen for showcasing the miniature work “Sailing from Georgia”! This tiny sailing boat is made out of 34 individual Giant hogweed seeds.

This Giant hogweed is native to the Caucasus (modern day Georgia) and was imported during the Victorian era. The plant was proudly kept in botanical gardens until it escaped into the wild one day.

One single Giant hogweed plant can produce approximately 800 seeds. These seeds are easily transported by wind and waterways.
